Councill's Challenge to 1875 Normalite Fund

The Councill Challenge Campaign Has Evolved into the 1875 Normalite Fund

Over a decade ago, AAMU embarked upon an initiative to enrich its historic tradition of excellence in teaching, research and public service. Recognizing the need to substantially under gird the resources provided by the uncertain State appropriations, the University launched the Councill Challenge.

The initially 15-year, $50 million campaign became the “key” through which the University unlocked the door to the vast legacy of AAMU’s founding father, Dr. William Hooper Councill. Its aim was to ensure a well-sustained and vibrant institution that would continue to serve as a beacon of hope and aspiration.

During its first year, through the support and generosity of its corporate, alumni, faculty, staff, and community friends, the Councill Challenge Campaign successfully raised the highest level of annual private contributions in the chronicles of AAMU. As an expression of sincere gratitude and indomitable school spirit, AAMU introduced the Distinguished Donor Clubs.

These clubs recognized the benevolence of all University supporters during each year of the Campaign. They also opened the door to new levels of giving opportunities for all supporters of the AAMU saga.

While the Councill Challenge Campaign ended in 2010, President Andrew Hugine, Jr., launched the 1875 Normalite Campaign, an annual giving program through which Normalites and friends support achievement at Alabama A&M University with a gift of $1875.00 or more a year—just $156 per month. The tax-deductible gift can be unrestricted, or it can be used to support an area that is meaningful to the donor, such as scholarships for deserving students.

Please join other Normalites and supporters in strengthening the 1875 Normalites Campaign. The goal of 1,000 supporters from 2010 to 2012 would provide $1,875,000 to power student achievement, success and AAMU’s growing impact. To support AAMU, make your tax-deductible contribution to “AAMU Foundation”, writing “1875 Normalites Campaign” in the memo. Please send it to PO Box 353, Normal, AL 35762. A tax receipt will be mailed to you.
